A home doesn't have to be perfectly clean all the time.
Sometimes you have time for a full housecleaning. Other times, you just need a few simple tricks to help you stay on top of things until you do.
Here are 10 easy cleaning hacks that can make some of those everyday jobs around your home a little easier—and most use things you may already have.
1. Give an Old Toothbrush a Second Job
Keep an old toothbrush around for cleaning the threads of jar lids and other small spaces that are difficult to reach with a cloth.
2. Use Canned Air for Exhaust Fans
Canned air can help remove dust from exhaust fans and other areas that are difficult to reach.
3. Freshen Up Chrome With Lemon
Cut a lemon in half and rub it over chrome taps and fixtures to help tackle buildup.
4. Make Cleaning the Microwave Easier
Heat a cup of water with lemon juice and baking soda for a few minutes. The steam can help loosen built-up grime before you wipe everything down.
5. Sharpen Dull Scissors
Try cutting through aluminum foil to give dull scissors a quick sharpen.
6. Reach Inside Narrow Containers
Swirl ice cubes and coarse salt inside narrow containers to help remove residue from areas you can't easily reach.
7. Put Your Lint Roller to Work
A lint roller can be great for picking up dust and pet hair from fabric lampshades, throw pillows and curtains.
8. Grab a Paintbrush for Window Tracks
A stiff paintbrush can help get into the corners and narrow spaces of window tracks where dirt tends to collect.
9. Make High and Low Dusting Easier
Wrap a dryer sheet around a flat sweeper head and use it for baseboards, door frames and the tops of windows.
10. Try a Coffee Filter on Electronics
A clean coffee filter is a simple way to dust electronics and television screens.
